ZUMBA®

We take the "work" out of workout, by mixing low-intensity and high-intensity moves for an interval-style, calorie-burning dance fitness party. Once the Latin and World rhythms take over, you'll see why Zumba® Fitness classes are often called exercise in disguise. It’s a total workout, combining all elements of fitness – cardio, muscle conditioning, balance and flexibility, boosted energy and a serious dose of awesome each time you leave class.

Suitable for adults

Duration: 1 hour

We have had the chance to teach in many amazing communities - notably collaborating with Women In Recovery Association (WIRA)- an organization providing rehabilitative support to female offenders during their time in Loyd Leas community supervision center. It was a powerful and enlightening experience to be able to use Zumba to support these women in their rehabilitation process.

ZUMBA® GOLD

ZUMBA GOLD is a series of fitness programs specifically designed to take the exciting Latin and international dance rhythms created in the original ZUMBA Program and bring them to the active older adult, the beginner participant, and other special populations that may need modifications for success! Created to emphasize the basics, this explosive program is so easy to follow that people of any age can do it! This invigorating Latin-inspired, dance-fitness program includes Merengue, Salsa, Cumbia, Belly Dance, Flamenco and Tango.

We had the opportunity to introduce this programme to the residents of St. Andrews Nursing Home (Buangkok), reaching out to both mobile and wheelchair-bound seniors. It was very encouraging to see that, over the course of three weekly sessions, the residents became not only increasingly receptive to our programme but also increasingly adept at performing these dance moves with us!

ZUMBINI

Created by Zumba® and BabyFirst for kids ages 0-4, the Zumbini® program combines music, dance and educational tools for 45 minutes of can't-stop, won't-stop bonding, learning, and fun! Find a Class. Silliness and wacky dance moves are. not required – but highly, highly encouraged.

ZUMBA® SPECIAL EVENTS

AnyBody Can Dance Sundays-Pandemic Version

The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 hit everyone all around the world and have forced us to stay home. To bring on some cheer and encouragement to our community, we ran ABCD Sundays from our living room, providing free dance classes to our community on ZOOM. We were thrilled to bring in over 60 people each house party we threw!

‘I really mean it when I say that your zumba classes have been such a big part of learning to love my body, and regaining my self-confidence in general. I was struggling with self-image issues when I first started, but it was because of how inclusive your zumba classes are that I had the courage to try. And over time I learnt to really let loose and be comfortable with my body, and even gained the courage to finally try out Bhangra! It's not just the dancing, but how accepting and empathetic you are as an instructor that made it such an empowering space. You always say that you see us, and I definitely see that too, that you really acknowledge and care for everyone in your classes. So I am really so grateful to you for providing such a precious space of growth and freedom throughout my time in Yale-NUS. I'm also really thankful for the virtual classes for allowing me to stay connected with a community that I treasure so much. Even virtually I can actually feel so much energy and love from everyone and it really invigorates me after work. I love how much intention you put into the classes, and I don't take for granted the dedication it must require to carry on the classes for so long! You are bringing so much joy to others amidst this pandemic, and you should know that's no small contribution!!’- Tan Hui Min

Zumba (Zoomba?) with Shanice has been a fantastic way for me to stay active, keep my spirits up, and bond with my friends and loved ones who are in different places. I attended in-person zumba classes fairly regularly at Yale-NUS, and this new online format hasn’t seemed to diminish anyone’s energy—especially Shanice’s—even in the slightest bit! I’m so thankful for these few hours every week to have fun and stay connected with people.

TRYBE X SUBHAS X CREATIVES INSPIRIT

On 28th August 2018, Creatives Inspirit together with local rapper Subhas, teamed up with youths from Trybe, to initiate a pilot rap session. The session was an introduction to lyrical writing for rap.

The session allowed the youths an opportunity to write their personal stories after which, they had a chance to share it with the class. Subhas and the Creatives Inspirit tribe worked with the youths, to build around their stories. Some of the youths even found the session to be therapeutic.

'The only rule here is respect', local rapper Subhas shared with Trybe’s youths. He also related on his journey to rapping as well as taught them how to tap on their emotions into expressions of writing for rap.

'The way we convey things through the lyrics are very important,' Subhas shared.

The Creatives Inspirit tribe and Subhas are really grateful for the opportunity to have worked with Trybe’s youths and we look forward to more of such sessions and to the youths' performance.
